How To Be Part of Global Missions Without Leaving Town
Every Christian can’t leave home to do missions work in another country. Thankfully, there are many activities you can do from your own town that will help you be a part of global missions. Here are four ideas to get you started.
Help on the Website
Your church or denomination probably has an online Christian ministry website with a page devoted to their work in global missions. If you are a creative person, volunteer to help out on the website by authoring articles for the page, editing photos or coding some of the pages.
Host Visiting Missionaries
When a missionary group visits a church or city, they typically stay in private homes to save their organization the expense of hotel stays. Volunteer your home to host as many of the missionaries as you have room to accommodate. That gives you extra time to learn more about their work in the mission field and discover additional ways you can help meet their needs.
Organize a Collection Drive
Missionaries always need Bibles and other supplies to help the communities they serve. Reach out and ask what is on their wish list and then organize a collection drive to get those items. You can also accept cash donations to help with the cost of sending the goods overseas.
Stay in Contact
Missionaries generally hear regularly from their friends for the first six months of their overseas assignment. After that, the emails tend to get less frequent as people get caught up with their own lives. That leaves missionaries lonely for contact from the church and country they left behind. Sending them a weekly email asking how they are doing and how you can pray for them makes a huge difference in their lives.
These are a few of the ways you can help out global missionaries without leaving your town.
